Growing up on a potato farm in upstate New York, in a very rural area, there was not much excitement for young teenagers. That is exactly what inspired me to design.
Among my mother's many tasks were cooking and cleaning for the farm help and caring for all seven of us kids. When time allowed, her love was to sew, design, and reupholster. She spent many hours showing us four daughters the secrets of the trade. My three sisters had no interest at all, so when they did not have to "take instruction," they would hurriedly find something else that they had to do.
But I loved it and could not get enough of it. When I was 12, my mom gave me an antique Treddel sewing machine and said I was ready to start designing on my own. What a ball I had, from Barbie clothes, to designing outfits for myself to go roller skating on the weekends, from reupholstering antique furniture pieces, to designing clothes for myself and my friends for school.
When my husband and I had our daughters, the possibilities were endless. In no time at all, it became a small business. I have continued sewing and designing through the years and now would like to expand the possibilities by moving into my own storefront and returning our home to "our home."
My love for people and sewing has coincided wonderfully, and I have many, many treasured memories of helping clients and being part of their special occasions.
Our Lord knows best, and His timing is the right timing. I am very thankful for the talent He has given me and for the clients (friends) from the past and those who I will continue to be blessed to meet.
